Manager’s Inbox (Season 2)
Season 1 Review
After a topsy-turvy season (in terms of league position) we can have every right to be happy with an eventual 4th placed finish, securing a place in the playoffs. Even better than that, we went on to secure promotion in dramatic fashion, with the help of some goalkeeping heroics in a playoff final penalty shootout finale. Lennox, goalkeeper and one of our few new signings, saved the day with a string of reaction saves when we needed it the most.
- Scott Honeyman: club record assists (17)
- Aaron Lennox: club record clean sheets (10)
- Max Gutherie: League top scorer (22)
We only made 3 new signings but they contributed massively to the club’s success this season, with top goal scorer, Gutherie, leading the line, and goalkeeper, Lennox, recording a club record number of clean sheets.
Board expectations
Bizarrely, the board expect our newly promoted side to once again reach the playoffs, this time in the Scottish League 1. If we can improve the squad, maintain or improve the club’s finances, and cement our place in the league as a minimum, I’ll be really pleased personally.
Off the Pitch
We finished the season on around £173K, improving on our finances by around double. Attempts were made to get the pitch relayed, but the chairman refused to sanction the work.
Approaching Season 2
As predicted, there’s been significant squad upheaval during the off-season, with many players coming and going. It’ll be a vastly different looking side next season, but with playoff expectations from the board, we have to push to improve the squad as much as possible.
