Premiership Established

Covering the 2021/22 campaign (season 3) as Derby County, on their return to the Premier League on FM20.

Our return to the Premiership was a success; avoiding relegation, finishing just outside the European places, and reaching the FA cup final (which we lost 4-0 to Liverpool!). Massive progress overall, not bad at all. Major strides forward were made on the development of our facilities too and we now boast state of the art training facilities – inline with the chairman’s vision to have the best facilities in the league.

Few will have tipped Derby to have been capable of avoiding relegation heading into the season but The Rams confounded every expectation by achieving a top-half finish. The Rams were one of the competition’s surprise packages, consistently defying expectations and, owing largely to an impressive spell of form between February and April that saw them rise to 9th, were able to celebrate a successful campaign.

Jack Butland continues last season’s immense success (new record for clean sheets in the Championship) and has established himself as England’s number one.

Tom Huddlestone continues to prove that age is no barrier and earns the Fan’s Player of the Season award. He’s now a player/coach with one season remaining before he becomes a full time coach.

Transfers

The January acquisition of Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich for £12M certainly helped our cause this season, but we were busy again in the summer, bolstering the ranks with youth and quality.

Wonderkid striker, Adam Idah, comes in from Norwich for £13.25M and will lead the line next season. Ben Gibson comes in for a bargain £1.6M to add competition. Santiago Simón, a winger from River joins for £3.7M and will be converted into a wing-back to challenge Bogle. Newgen wonderkid, Zenon William Makris, joins on loan from Chelsea and goes straight in on the right wing. Our final signing came late on transfer deadline day – newgen Renan (labelled the next Neymar), is prized away from second division Brazilian side Ceará Sporting Club (CEA) for £2.1M and will join up with us in January. I’m excited to see how that one pans out!
